Fountains Abbey is near to Aldfield, approximately two miles southwest of Ripon in North Yorkshire, England. It is a ruined Cistercian monastery, founded in 1132. Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved Cistercian houses in England. It is a Grade I listed building and owned by the National Trust. Along with the adjacent Studley Royal Water Garden, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Knaresborough Castle is situated at the top of a large cliff, with a commanding view of the River Nidd and the Forest of Knaresborough. The castle ruins do not convey its important role in the development of the English nation. For most of its history, Knaresborough Castle has been in royal control, and it has retained this long tradition to the present day. It is now in the possession of the Crown, as part of the Queen's inheritance of the Duchy of Lancaster.

The caves at Stumps Cross were then discovered in 1860 by miners who looking for lead seams in the Yorkshire Dales. Although they didn't find any lead, they did find the natural caverns which you can see today. Miners often didn't see any commercial value in the caves, however a man named William Newbould had vision enough to see that they could be a profitable enterprise, and opened the caves to the public at a cost of 1 shilling per visit.

The curious rock formations at Brimham in Nidderdale are scattered over some 50 acres on Brimham Moor and provide a great variety of weird and wonderful shapes. Many of the gritty monstrosities suggest all manner of things, including elephants, hippos, bears, mushrooms and some are said to have associations with druids, Mother Shipton and even the Devil himself.

Wetherby is a National Hunt course - that's jump racing to the uninitiated - and most meetings take place over the winter months, but a couple of meetings are held in the evenings during May.

Harewood House is home to the Earl of Harewood, cousin to the Queen. The estate was bought with money made from the West Indian sugar trade in 1738 and the house was completed in 1771. The splendid State rooms contain an extensive collection of portraits, porcelain and antique furniture.Below stairs you can see where the servants worked and lived in the kitchen, scullery and servant's hall. There is a permanent display in the housekeeper's room devoted to HRH Princess Mary, the Earl's mother and another exhibition charts the history of the sugar trade. Outside you'll find gardens landscaped by Capability Brown which includes formal gardens, a Bhutanese Stupa, waterfall and Himalayan garden. The bird garden houses over 100 species of rare and exotic birds in sympathetic environments. For kids there is an adventure playground and woodland walks where they can run around to their hearts content.
